Suppliers, Shipyards, Shipowners, Cash Buyers, Ship Recycling Facilities including hinterland waste management, as well as Flag States, and Classification Societies have to identify options for their effective compliance. Regulations will remain and tighten; thus new risks keep appearing.

Identifying the most effective solutions for dealing with the new challenges is the basis for your competitiveness and sustainability in the coming decades.

We deliver solutions.

The “Hong Kong International Convention for Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships” (HKC) of IMO addresses more than old ships or recyclers. The whole maritime industry faces new challenges. Also existing legislation like SOLAS regarding hazardous materials is getting more in the focus. New legal developments on regional and national level and public attention are further increasing pressure and risks.

All this poses various challenges and risks today, from cleanup costs, loss of charter contracts, and bad reputation via being prepared and meeting increasing customer demands.

The maritime industry in its entirety is affected. Are you aware and prepared?

Suppliers have to declare presence and absence of hazardous materials in Material Declarations (MD) and Suppliers Declaration of Conformity (SDoC). Also they are responsible for lacking or incorrect information. Knowing what sub-suppliers deliver and creation of a liability chain is essential.

Shipyards have to collect MDs and SDoCs from all suppliers for preparing Inventory of Hazardous Materials (IHM). Data handling is the key for saving costs. Reducing risks by closing information gaps is essential to avoid risks.

Shipowners are responsible for getting IHM prepared for their existing ships by HazMat Experts and then to maintain them. Setting up internal communication and making suppliers aware of this new demand is the key for avoiding continuous hassles potentially created by HKC. Continuing use of asbestos banned by SOLAS has been found to pose various risks. Proper handling once identified is essential and accepting delivery of a new ship with asbestos should be avoided.

Ship Recycling Facilities future is green, but how green & safe are you today? What are the best solutions for you and your infrastructure? Staying on current levels won´t be sufficient, we identify effective improvement options in line with HKC and ISO 30000 for existing and also new facilities.
