With ever more public interest, Ship Recycling has come out of the shadows of the maritime industry. With it comes rules, regulations, IMO conventions and ship owners can very easily lose track of the do’s and don’ts when handling old tonnage. Sea2Cradle provides a hassle-free way for ship owners to handle the recycling of their vessel, rig, platform or FPSO responsibly from start to finish. Our services range from taking inventories of hazardous materials (IHM) and brokerage advice to making a ship recycling plan and supervising the dismantling and recycling at the demolition yard. Furthermore we also provide ship recycling facility plans for yard owners and trainings to their workers.
Sea2Cradle’s founders, Tom Peter Blankestijn and Wouter Rozenveld, both have over 25 years of experience in the shipping industry. They are joined by a multinational team of highly skilled and experienced professionals that can handle ships in all shapes and sizes. Ship types vary from large F(P)SO’s to small survey vessels and anything in between, owned by numerous highly respected names in the shipping industry. With increasing demand from interested ship owners in green recycling the team handled dozens of ships over the last years, according to our own standards. Demolition yards with an accident-free working environment. Proper disposal of hazardous materials without exposure to workers. Recycling over 95% of all material with the aim of 100%. These are just a few examples of the standards Sea2Cradle upholds in every project.
Aside from raising the bar from an operational perspective we are actively participating in the legislational process and promoting green ship recycling options for the shipping industry. The team behind Sea2Cradle has for many years worked towards establishing a level playing field for Green Ship Recycling and have actively participated in IMO’s work leading to the Ship Recycling Convention. Furthermore we remain involved in future work of European Commission DG Environment, ILO, IMO, Basel Convention and local governments such as China, the UK and The Netherlands.
Our aim is Zero pollution, Zero accidents and Zero incidents. This can only be achieved by dedication and close monitoring of all aspects throughout the process. Our team has a successful track record of over 110 ships being responsibly recycled in China, outperforming the regulations. By working only with trusted and proven partners we have no doubt we can live up to our ambition of setting new standards for the industry. All the recycling yards we work with combine safe working with high environmental performance.
Nearly all our recycling takes place at state-of-the-art facilities in China, where the whole process is documented in detail. The yards are ISO14001 and OHSMS18001 certified. Good relationships with additional yards in the U.S.A, the UK, Turkey and Belgium that meet our standards provide alternative ship recycling facilities.
Our recycling procedures include a rigorous pre-cleaning, during which all hazardous materials are carefully handled, separated and disposed of, according to the highest standards. After the ship is cleaned the dismantling will take place in the most orderly fashion. The whole process is closely monitored by on-site staff. Upon completion the ship owner will receive comprehensive documentation of the entire process.
